The PROFNIT® is a stricto sensu Graduate Degree Program in Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer for Innovation devoted to the improvement of professional education focused on performing tasks in Technology Innovation Centers (NITs) and Innovation Promoters Environments in several academic departments, business sectors, governmental agencies, social organizations, and so forth. It is an in-classroom learning program administered by the FORTEC (www.fortec.org.br), managed on a national network of Focal Points with Academic Headquarters at one of them, which is provided to undergraduated professionals who work on Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, and Technological Innovation concerning the competences of Technological Innovation Centers (NITs), staff and team members of Science and Technology Institutions (ICTs), as well as in other similar instances of the National System of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SNCTI). The students do not pay annual tuition fees and the faculty do not receive any pro-labore, as it is a social contribution funded by FORTEC (Brazilian Association of Innovation and Technology Transfer Managers) and co-financed by the Brazilian government and other institutions. The Professional Master’s Degree is offered nationally and covers all the regions in Brazil. It received grade 4 by the Scientific-Technical Council of Higher Education (CTC-ES) of CAPES at its 159th meeting held on June 18 and 19, 2015 (Ordinance of Recognition Regulatory Act No 0559 published on July 01, 2016, CNE Advisory Opinion No 561/2015). The PROFNIT is coordinated by the Management Council (CG) and the National Academic Committee (CAN) that operate under the FORTEC Directory, which has Focal Point Headquarters and is managed by the Academic Institutional Committees (CAIs) of the Focal Points. The Federal University of Piauí has a focal point, the PROFNIT-UFPI, which is attended by faculty members from UFPI, State University of Piauí (UESPI), Federal Institute of Piauí (IFPI), and Federal Institute of Maranhão (IFMA). Alumni Skills: To perform actions concerning the competences of NITs, the master’s student must have basic knowledge on the university-business dialogue, be trained to interact purposefully with governmental, business, and academic sectors. The highlights are: Knowing legislation and public policies related to Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer, and Technological Innovation; Knowing and proposing policies to encourage the protection of creation; Evaluating the convenience and dissemination of creation protection; Registering applications and maintaining the intellectual property rights; Serving in the licensing, innovation, and other forms of technology transfer; Developing studies on technological prospection and competitive intelligence regarding intellectual property with the purpose of guiding the innovation actions of Science and Technology Institutions (ICTs); Developing studies and strategies for the transfer of innovations created by Science and Technology Institutions (ICTs); Promoting and monitoring the relationship of Science and Technology Institutions (ICTs) with companies; Negotiating and managing the agreements of technology transfer from Science and Technology Institutions (ICTs). Routine activities of dialogue and actions concerning universities-business relations, purposefully interacting with different sectors.
