RESUMO:

Faults in transmission lines (TL) may cause great loss to users and managers of Electric Power Systems
(EPS). Thus, it is important to make the process of locating these faults more efficient, in order to repair them as quickly as possible. In the present study, Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) were used as a tool for processing voltage signals during faults. Moreover, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was responsible for locating the faults. A modeled line based on parameters of a real line was used as well. Several scenarios were performed on MATLAB and the proposed method provided results with high precision in locating faults, with a Mean Relative Error (MRE) of 0.00006% and a Mean Absolute Error (MAR) of 0.2 meters.
