RESUMO:

Tendons are formed by highly organized dense connective tissue, in percentage terms tendons have their composition divided into 55-70% water and 30-45% dry mass. In turn, its structural and organizational composition is made up of a cellular matrix rich in fibroblasts known as tenocytes or tendinocytes, representing around 20% of the tendon's composition, and the extracellular matrix (ECM) representing the remaining 80% of the volume. of the fabric. Tendinopathies (TP) consist of a preferably chronic degenerative condition of the tendon, resulting from an accumulation of microtrauma over time, forming the most pathological disorders that affect the tendons. PT typically involves the progression of microtraumas that expose tissue degradation products including alarmins, collagen fragments (Col), nucleic acids, among others. These Damage-Associated Molecular Patterns (DAMPs) are recognized by Toll-like receptors (TLRs) on tendon cells, vascular endothelial cells, macrophages, and mast cells, promoting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., interleukin-1 (IL-1). ) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF), chemokines, lipid mediators and reactive oxygen species (ROS). With a multifactorial origin that includes intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors, PT has its highest occurrence among high-performance athletes, being responsible for 30- 50% of all sports injuries. Therefore, we sought to evaluate the effect of Arnica montana Linnaeus extract on acute inflammation of the Achilles tendon of Wistar rats induced by collagenase, since Arnica montana Linnaeus is a plant originating in mountainous regions from northern Europe popularly known in Brazil as: quina-dos-pobres, tobacco-of-the-alps, tobacco-of-the-mountain, herb-of-the-preachers, leopard venom has flavonoids as its main active constituents (including quercetin and its derivatives such as quercetin-3-mono-glucoside and quercetin-3-glycogalacturonic acid), sesquiterpene lactones (arnicolide, helenalin and dihydrohelenaline), alcohols (arnidiol, arnylenediol, isoarnylenediol), carotenoids, essential oil, inulin and tannins, among others Na which highlights the antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antiradical, antisclerotic and antioxidant properties of these chemical constituents. The present study showed a reduction in tendon thickness and weight-bearing deficit in the ipsilateral paw of animals treated with Arnica montana. It also demonstrated an increase in average speed in the spontaneous walking test, but a significant difference between the groups, did not promote changes in C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels. Furthermore, histologically, treatment with A.M promoted an improvement in tendon tissue in the parameters of arrangement of tendinous fibers, hypercellularity and rounding of the fibroblast nucleus. However, there was no presence of inflammatory infiltrates and neoangiogenesis in any group after 21 days of induction in the model under study. Still, it promoted an increase in the proportion of type I collagen when compared to type III collagen.
