TÍTULO: COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN THE TECHNIQUES FOR DEPOSITION OF TIN FILMS ON COCR AND NICR METAL ALLOYS FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS PRODUCTION

RESUMO:

The use of metal alloys based on Cobalt-Chromium (CoCr) and Nickel-Chromium (NiCr) have been widely used as biomaterials in dentistry, due to their excelente physical and mechanical properties and biocompatibility, as well as the low cost of the material. However, in unfavorable environments, such as the oral cavity, dental prostheses made from CoCr or NiCr can suffer alterations to their structure through rapid changes to their surface, typically related to variations in the patient's diet. The aim of this work is to carry out a comparative study between the cathodic cage and hollow cathode methods, in which thin titanium nitride (TiN) films were plasma deposited on CoCr and NiCr samples, in order to evaluate their surface characteristics and tribological properties for each method. This work was divided into 3 chapters. In the first chapter (article 1), a technological and bibliographical survey was carried out on the application of CoCr and NiCr alloys in dentistry, related to the development of metallic dental prostheses that have undergone plasma treatment for the deposition of TiN films. The work emphasizes the ability of prostheses to enhance the tribological and biocompatible properties of these metal alloys when they receive titanium nitride films on their surfaces. In the second chapter (article 2), the effects of TiN film deposition were evaluated using the cathodic cage and hollow cathode plasma deposition techniques on CoCr and NiCr samples, after they had undergone different pre-treatment conditions, in which they passed through an electrolytic bath capable of altering their surface characteristics. Comparisons were made of the mechanical,physical and chemical properties of the surfaces of the samples coated with the film. It was observed that the plasma treatments increased the mechanical and surface properties of the treated samples. The third chapter (article 3) focuses on biological analyses, with an emphasis on antimicrobial tests, with the aim of discovering the effects that plasma treatments (via cathode cage and hollow cathode) have had on media containing bacteria and fungi. A reduction in the contact angle of the treated samples was observed, as well as a reduction in the colony count of some microorganisms, showing significant changes in the surfaces of the alloys studied after deposition, referring to microbial adhesion processes.
